Steve & Mike, sorry guys i've been on holiday.

Steve, I tried turning off my firewall and it worked. Thanks so much for
your help. I really appreciate it. It was a trivial thing but it was really
bothering me as it was a new computer and came with WMP service pack 2.

Thanks again

Thanks for your help. I was able to get web access to Windowsmedia.com up
and running via WMP. i have Windows firewall turned off; however, my
antivirus software PCcillin had my firewall set up to deny the connection of
WMP. It was listed in the exception list of programs, however, the action
need to be edited to either warn or allow the connection. Hope this helps
you linda

Hi Linda, I agreee. Since my VIAO came with XP preinstalled.... I would have
to download it from Sony and reinstall all my software and updates. My
connections and secirity are fine.... there must be a glitch in the program.
I hadn't used media player for a few months.... did your problem occur after
service pack 2?

You should order a recovery disk from Sony *before* something goes
wrong. You won't be able to download a copy of Windows.

Hi Steve, I am also unable to retrieve Album Info from Windows XP, Media
Centre Edition, Service pack . i would be interested in finding out what
resolve there is to this. I have tried phoning mu Support Helpline but they
were unable to give me a positive answer - except they did say the
reinstalling Windows would be an option, but I would use this only as a last
resort.

Reinstalling Windows or Media Player would be a complete waste of time.
Access to the Windowsmedia server tends to be patchy, and you will
probably find that it becomes available again in a few days.

On the other hand it is always worthwhile checking firewall settings or
any other settings of recently installed software.

I am no longer able to access album information, media guide, etc. when using
Windows Media Player 9.0 or 10. I recieve a 'Cannot find server or DNS
error'? I have checked all my security settings, connections, etc. but am
unable to connect with AMG website through WMP. I can access website
directly with Internet Explorer. any help would be appreciated.
