Yes, Windows Media Player can play MP3 files.
Yes, a MP3 player has memory that is used to store songs. My PDA can play
songs located on another computer if I use the built in WiFi. I also have SD
memory cards that I can store song files on that plug into my PDA. My PDA
also has built in memory, but this is small compared to the SD cards memory
sizes now available.
My PDA can also play *.wma files, which are windows media player format.
Typically, these files are about half the size of MP3 files, so you can fit
more songs on a device.
Your 3rd question sounds about right about the alphabetic order of play.
Most players also allow you to set up play lists so that you can have
several favourites lists that you can select from to play. For example I can
select files I want to play, and in what order, and even repeat some, by
just adding the same file to the list more than once.
Random play is also available.
As to the car player, if it can play MP3's, then it should show more than
just track 1, track 2, etc., it should show the name of the file and perhaps
other information like artist as well, but that depends on the player.
You can convert MP3 files to WAV files, which is the format that regular CD
players use. WAV files are huge in comparison to the compressed format
files. So only a dozen or so WAV files will fit on a CD compared to hundreds
of .wma or .MP3 files onto a CD.
A lot of DVD players also can play MP3 files. You can read your DVD manual
to find out how to do this, as you have to have a specific folder layout and
names to get this to work.

Excuse lack of being completely up to date on this, but...I wondered about
some basics of songs, files, and so forth on an MP3 player. Brief
questions are....
__T or __F. Windows Media Player (WMP) will play MP3 songs (that is, mp3
files)
__T or __F. An MP3 player (like a handheld unit) always has memory or a
memory chip, and the way it stores songs is like on a PC, they are files,
and you download (or otherwise copy) song files that end in mp3, like
brittany123.mp3, TheDoorsRidersOnStorm.mp3, HappyBirthday.mp3, etc.
__T or __F. The order the songs play in (on a handheld unit or in WMP)
will always default to 'alphabetical' by filename (not chronologically by
newest file date to oldest file date), *unless* your player has some
"program" capability where you can tell it to play songs in a certain
order or at random. So the default for the following 3 files in memory
would be played in this order (by first letter of filename):
1st. Brittany123.mp3
2nd. Happybirthday.mp3
3rd. Thedoorsridersonstorm.mp3
__T or __F. Someone mentioned my car's in-dash CD happens to also be an
mp3 player. What this means is, all I need to do is copy some mp3 files
(songs) onto a CD-R (or CD+R) disc, put them into the car player, and it
will start playing the songs as track1, track2, etc. A CD-RW disc won't
work (I tried it, it doesn't).
Again, pls excuse, but didn't know any better way to ask these newbie
questions,
Thanks,
George
