Re: error message 800400204 and 800400200

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

OK Let's try :

(1) Start GSpot
(2) Click the File Menu
(3) Choose Open
(4) Select (or browse to) the media file, where you stored it on your
computer's hard disk
(5) OK that (press 'Open')

(6) All the boxes will fill with information.
(7) Write down the following :

Top left box : What's next to the label 'Stat'
Top right box : What's next to the labels '4CC' and 'Stat'
Middle right box : What's next to the labels 'Name' and 'Stat'

Write that text here :
====================================================
Top left box : Stat :
Top right box : Stat : 4CC :
Middle right box : Stat : Name :
====================================================

(8) Now move down to the very bottom - there's a button labelled
'Render' - press that and wait a few seconds.
(9) Click the large button at the bottom which will now be labelled
"Render : Partial Failure (click for details)" :
(10) A pale yellow box will pop up.
(11) Right click within that yellow box (i.e. use the right hand
button on the mouse to make a selection)
(12) Select Copy Text To Clipboard
(13) Press the button Ctrl and the button V together, in your news
reader program (what you use to post messages here)

(14) If that step worked we now have enough information to know what
codec (decoder) you need to play back the video and audio. The exact
text is useful in conjunction with what you posted earlier in step (7)

The output of the cut+paste might look similar to this
====================================================
DirectShow partially succeeded to play file. The actual text of the
error or warning is:

0x00040242: VFW_S_PARTIAL_RENDER - Some of the streams in this movie
are in an unsupported format.

The following combination of filters were used:

{F:\video\Dr.Who.S27E01.Rose.DVDScr.[BT].avi} (Audio Source)
{AVI Splitter} (Audio Splitter)
{MPEG Layer-3 Decoder} (Audio Decoder)
{Default DirectSound Device} (Audio Renderer)
====================================================

Dear Neil,

Appearantly I have no idea at all how to use the gspot
program, as I am very new to the cyber-world and not very computer savvy
yet. Can you please give me more detailed instructions as to how to use the
gspot program? I feel like a 5-year old and was hoping that I could just
download a codec or something that would solve the error messages
80040200,(unable to downlad appropriate compressor), and 800400204,(one or
more of the pins required is already connected), when I try to play an mov.
file. Thank-you once again for your attention and sorry about the name,
(credit), confusion.

Dear Chris,

Please HELP!!...O.K....Ive downloaded both the Gspot and the quiktime
player, which you advise for error 80040200. Not only do I still get that
error message, but I ALSO get 80040204, telling me that one or more of the
PINS required are already connected. How can I solve this problem? I look
forward to hearing from you soon. Thank~you for your time.

None of those errors above are Quicktime player errors, they're WMP
related (actually, Directshow errors begin with 800, and WMP with C00)

As you've removed all the context from this message I've no idea about
what you're referring to, but Chris' suggestion would probably been
along the lines of - "Download the file to your PC and open it in
Quicktime player". Did you try that yet ?

GSpot is a program for analysing AVI video. On its own, downloading
that, and even installing it won't accomplish anything. You have to
install it, run the program, load the AVI file and press "Render AVI"
for it to tell what's wrong with the video (or what can be used to
play it).

Chris will have wanted you to post back the results from GSpot stating
what the type of AVI file is, so we could suggest a codec you can use
to play the file in WMP.
