Media Player upgrade ver 9 to 10 failed, how fix?

I just re-installed WindowsXP-pro on this PC, from Dell system disk, and
noticed it had Windows Media Player (WMP) version 9 on it. I opened WMP
went to Help > Get Updates ... and it appeared download/install well, I
entered the setup checkboxes (like what files it will play by default)....
then at very end a window popped up and said something like...
_________________________________________
______________________________________[X]
....did not install version 10, (go back and) reinstall the update from ver
9....

So I clicked [X] to close window, then version 10 popped up. And, it's Help
says I have the "latest version".

Three questions are...
1) Anyone ever see this before?
2) Does this mean a glitch might be lurking and I should re-install just to
be safe. Or, is there an installer glitch and I should assume the ver 10 is
just fine on my PC
3) Either way, how would I uninstall/reinstall... first, I didn't see WMP at
all in Add/Remove, and second, I'm not sure where to find an all-new
download of WMP
......................................................................
Thanks for any insights,
George
