Does WMP's File:Work Offline fix this?
Do you have WMP's Tools:Options:Library:Retrieve Additional Information
checked?

Greetings,
I have a Compaq Presario 1670 laptop I've setup as a fulltime jukebox,
with
Win98SE and WMP 9 freshly installed. I placed WMP9 in the Startup and
everything works wonderfully--plays for hours, amongst the 3000 or so
tracks
on a 30GB drive.
The problem occurs after I click the Stop button (you have to have a
little
silence every so often) and let the machine sit. Soon the fan winds up,
as
if the machine is going at something big time and then it locks up solid
(this could be after playing music for a few minutes or several hours).
I've tried turning on and off the screen saver, Standby, etc. to no avail.
In this day where almost everything MS makes MUST always be connected to
the
Internet, I'm wondering if perhaps the app just gets lonely because it has
no
access to the Internet at all (e.g., is it trying to update itself while
idle
perhaps?).
I appreciate any help I could get on this as it is a little of a pain to
turn off the machine everytime I stop playing music. Thanks!
.
