Do you have something like a 'Karaoke' mode button on your speakers
(or sound card) ? The karaoke mode mostly removes stuff which is the
same in both speakers, which is usually the dialogue or singer in a
music track.

That would replicate your symptoms. AFAIK there's no setting in media
player to do that, so look at your speakers initially. Otherwise, see
if you've turned on some sort of surround-sound setup that wouldn't
work with only 2 speakers (eg 5.1 surround)
