Re: Media Player 10 Mini toolbar problem

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

I'm having the same problems (mini-player buttons are greyed out). I've
followed the "solutions" in this thread. I've rebooted. I've made sure
mini-player is turned off before I reboot. I've rebooted, reinstalled, and
rebooted again. I still can't get the buttons to work. I got the download
for WMP10 right from the MS WMP site. This used to work fine for me until I
upgraded my motherboard, reinstalled/repaired my Windows installation, and
then reinstalled WMP10. Everything else on my machine is working fine accept
this feature.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
RJRon

I had the same problem. I originally downloaded 10 from the windows update
page. I never got the buttons to work. I had to go to the media page and
download 10 and then install. You do have to turn off the mini player and
then reboot. It does not prompt for reboot. After doing that, all functions
work correctly.

Unfortunately, the shell doesn't necessarily release the taskbar player
immediately. Have you tried rebooting? If you reboot once (no need for
further reboots here) that should force the shell to refresh what it's
using.

Greetings from Jersey...
Well, I downloaded the Media Player 10 from Microsoft per the email THEY
sent me, and I not only disabled the Media Player toolbar but shut off
EVERY
application that was running. WMP10 installed beautifully, and everything
seemed great, but I'm having the same problem with the Toolbar... And
that's
rather annoying because I work in an office and having to restore WMP just
to
click on the mute button everytime the phone rings is a bit tedious.
Can't
figure out what the problem is...

Actually, minibar in the beta worked just fine provided you didn't have
the
old version locked by the shell. If you had the old version locked by
the
shell (read: you had the taskbar player loaded at the time of install),
you
could in some cases have the minibar player's interface non-functional.
The
fix was to turn off the taskbar player option in the task bar, reboot the
computer (so that shell unloads it), and then reinstall the player on top
of
itself.

Sounds like you downloaded the beta version. The Minibar in the beta
doesn't
work. The volume slides but does not do anything. The others are grayed
out.
