no good, still lists same files. also deleted WMDB files and
re-created...still no luck. files are stored on a "203 gig Maxtor shared
storage device" connected through a netgear router. should'nt make any
difference should it? also loaded wmp 9, and it also only loaded the same
135 files.
any suggestions?

Instead of the "attrib /s /d -s" command Matthias suggested, try "attrib /s.
/d -s -h". This also clears the hidden file attribute if it was set. Good
luck!

good try Matthias...I thought you had it. But not so. It still only lists
135 files...any other ideas?

I found this fix, and it help me:
Problem: Media Player's Library does not find all of your music, even
when pointing to the directory you keep all of your music in. Deleting
the library and the WMDB files does not seem to help. You also get the
same songs showing up over and over again when you try to rebuild the
library.
I had that problem and it took me quite a while to figure it out. I'm
posting my fix here for anyone who may need it.
Possible Cause: Folders in which some of your songs are located have
somehow become marked with the "System" attribute. WMP will not search
in folders with that attribute.
Fix: Go to Start > Run > type in "cmd" and hit Enter (without the
quote marks).
Type in the driver letter where your music is followed by a colon (ex.:
c: ) and hit Enter.
Now, type in: cd "location of music directory" (with quotes
included).
Eg.: If your music is at "d:\music", first type in d: and hit Enter;
then type in cd "music" and hit Enter.
Now, we can remove that "system" attribute. Type in (NO quotes)
"attrib /s /d -s" and hit Enter. What this command does is remove the
"system" attribute from all of the folders in your music directory.
After this close the command prompt window.
Try to rebuild your library now. It should work.

I have over 1000 mp3 & WMA files in a particular folder, yet WMP will only
list 135 of them in its library. H ave tried many suggestions on the web and
still cannot resolve this problem. There appears to be many postings
identifying this same problem but no solution. Any ideas?
