Should be "safe", and is a better starting point. If that fails, you can
always try it the other way.
One comment I have about DirectX, Microsoft does a great job
in confusing people on which versions to download. I could find
4 versions available - a DirectX 9.0c End-User Runtime, a DirectX
End-User Runtimes (December 2005) Full Download, DirectX
End-User Runtime (December 2005) Web Installer and DirectX
9.0c - End-User EULAs. How do we know which one is the
correct version? There is even a 5th version, SDK, which appears
to be only for developers. Does MCE come with the minimum to
get the system working.
I don't disagree there.
dxdiag.exe will say what version you have on your local system. The latest
from MS is probably the right version here.
