After checking out online FAQ sites and other posts with this same problem, I took action and finally solved this problem. First, I
rolled back my WMP 10 to version 9 and restarted my computer. After
this, I went back and uninstalled the Windows Media Runtime
Environment, the program right below WMP in the Add/Remove Programs
window. This required a restart of my computer as well. Finally, I
went to the WMP 10 website and reinstalled the whole program and kept
the configurations in their default settings. After this was
complete, I no longer got the error and was able to successfully
watch and listen to streaming video and music. Thank you for your
help.
