DRM and "incomplete setup" probs in WMP 10

I'm running XP Media Center Edition and am having 2 major issues.
1. DRM issue:
I bought some downloads from buy.com that will not play on my desktop using
WMP. The error message says "A problem has occurred in the Digital Rights
Management component. Contact Microsoft product support." Customer service
from buy.com has reset the license a few times and I have re-downloaded the
files with no success in playback. I copied some of the WMA files to my
notebook and they play fine after asking me to sign in to buy.com in order
to download my license. So I guess the problem is unrelated to buy.com and
their DRM. The attempted playbacks on my desktop (where the original
downloads reside) never got far enough to ask me to download the license. I
got the bright idea to uninstall then reinstall WMP 10 in order to start
clean, thinking that there may be some license thingy left behind that was
fouling me up. Which leads me to the next problem.
2. Can't complete setup issue:
"It was not possible to complete Setup" ---> I know this has been a common
problem. Here are the lines from the wmsetup.log that have the word "ERROR"
in them:
ERROR: Package 'MPPRE'. Result: 0x800700b7
ERROR: Package 'DRM10'. Result: 0x800700b7
ERROR: Package 'codecs10'. Result: 0x800700b7
ERROR: Package 'wmfsdk10'. Result: 0x800700b7
ERROR: Package 'WMDMCORE10'. Result: 0x800700b7
I read this article
(http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/knowledgecenter/mediaadvice/0073.aspx#592)
and plenty of posts on these boards in an attempt to solve the problem, but
am still stumped. Re: MS's advice in that article, I can't even do what
they say as my Properties box doesn't even have a "Security" tab, so I don't
know what that's all about. I already am an administrator, so I just
figured it doesn't apply to me.
The wierd thing is that WMP 10 keeps working like I never even uninstalled
it (though I now understand that you can't really uninstall it anyway). It
does everything fine except play these darn WMAs.
So: is it possible that my DRM problems are related to this setup problem or
do I now have 2 headaches to work out separately? Thanks for any help.
