Windows Media Player Crashes on Web Access with Domain User accoun

Problem Description:
When logged on with a domain account with Domain User privileges, Windows
Media player crashes with the text "Opening..." showing when the user
attempts to access the Guide, Music, Radio, or Video tabs. Also, Internet
Explorer stops responding when attempting to load a webpage that loads the
wmp.dll add-on (i.e. http://www.msnbc.com). This also occurs when logged on
locally as a user with simple "User" privileges.
If I add the user to the local Power Users group, the problem no longer
occurs. If I remove the user from the Power Users group, the problem resumes.
It does not appear to be a question of file access, as I have tested giving
domain users unrestricted read/write access to C: drive and all
subdirectories and files. It also does not appear to be a profile issue,
either, as I have deleted both local and roaming copies of the profile with
various different configurations that I have tried. I think I have ruled out
any kind of GPO issue, since adding the user to the local Power User group
does not alter any policies applied from the domain. (Of course, that is not
to rule out the possibility of a solution by giving Domain Users an
additional User Rights Assignment through Group Policy.)
