WMP DNS Error

Using Windows XP Home edition, IE 6, WMP 10, all fully up to date.

If I access any link to a wmv file using Internet Explorer on a PC with
XP Home I get a dns error.

It's only a problem with this specific combination - XP Home, IE 6 and
WMP 10. I've tried various other combinations, in the same network, and
they all work fine (XP Pro/IE/WMP, W2K/IE/WMP, XP Home/Firefox/WMP, XP
Home/IE/Winamp).

I don't think this is related to my router - it fails to work even if
both the html file and the wmv file are on my local PC. If I open up
the wmv file directly from wmp it works. If I try to access via an html
href link, it doesn't.

I've been changing settings in wmp and ie so much to try to fix this
that I'm not sure I can give any useful info on the settings.

I don't know exactly when the problem started, but I'm pretty sure it
was OK three months ago.
