Re: Can't stream videos

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I fully understand your exasperation at your troubles.
You are right about it being 'Services' The services tab seems
more important then the Startup one both seem to be registry items.
I disable most everything that is not Microsoft to keep things
running smoothly.
The only time I enable third party things is when I need to update
AVG virus scanner to check out my system every month or so.
System Restore is only a last resort and causes least problems if that too is disabled.
It is better to keep a OS install disk handy to reinstall your system
if things get really bad. You should be able to get wmp working without
having to redo your whole system.
There must be some simple tests you can do to rule out or verify
what the problem really is. First familiarize yourself with both
WMP and MSIE because they both work together.
I am assuming you are using WIN XP???
I no longer have a high speed connection because the cost is too high.
I can not help you by sending you various files to try out.
Have you tried to stream audio like from BBC ???
If you can stream anything at all then you know it is somewhat functional.
Check out all your options and tools areas and make sure
everything is default settings.
If you can compare settings with someone who can stream then do that.
I will tell you what my settings are.
You can email me at gmvoeth<at>yahoo<dot>com
send me your email address and I will carefully write down all my settings and send them to you.
If you want to try this then tell me what System and SP you have as well
as the ABOUT information from WMP and MSIE.
Then you can compare things with your settings and make sure they are the same.
This is the best I can do.
If things work out for you then you can post back to this thread with
the final solution or make a new one for others to read.
I have just been hanging around this newsgroup waiting for answers to my own
questions which seem like they will not be coming.

Until Next Time,
BuddyBoy
