can't open any audio file

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

I have installed lately some dvd players, in particular Cliprex, blazeDVD and
easy dvd. Cliprex installed also ffdshow and ac3 codecs. blazedvd instead
asked for file types associations (also mp3, etc etc) and insterted some
voices in the registry. Under the voice "mp3" I see that there is a reference
to windows media player and even to blazeDvd, even if I didn't asked to
associate mp3 files to blazeDvd.
Everything works fine with the dvd. the only problem is that now I can't
open audio files with windows media player (neither with other programs).
Audio still work on my computer. When i startup and close windows I still
hear system sound.
Instead when i double click an andio (or even some video) file, wmp gives me
an error.
I had wmp 9, and the error was saying that the file could be corrupted, or
the file type was not supported by wmp.
I installed wmp 10 and now I get a completely different error:

"C00D11D1: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there might be a problem
with the sound or video device, such as a sound or video card."

I reinstalled audio drivers (I use a sound blaster live 1024. The driver I
use is the one provided by windows, and i haven't had problems since now).
but this didn't help.
I don't think that my sound car is the problem, since i'm getting two
different errors with the 2 versions of wmp.

Maybe a problem with registry file types associations?
How can I reset it?
I would format once again, but this is getting pretty noisy lately. I'm
formatting my pc 2 or 3 times a year.

Other useful info about my system..
I use windows xp professional with service pack 2 installed.

Ah, I can see also that I'm missing the indeo audio codec for mp3 files.
There are some other mp3 and mpeg-layer 3 codecs listed, anyway.

Thanks to whoever will help :-)

Luca
