Hello,

I have Windows XP SP1 Family Edition upgraded to SP2 installed on an NTFS
partition, and I use MediaPlayer 10.

Due to an incident on my system partition, consisting in resetting to
inappropriate 'default' file/folder permissions, where some bought audio
files protected by Digital Rights Management were stored, these files are
now unusable : MPlayer always says that it cannot check the license, even
for most of my files it has already acquired the license before (at 1st
playing) ---

           --- STOP ---

--- an unexpected event has just occured : Privileged users can read
protected files !

But ordinary users stil cannot read them for the reason dipictured
previously.

Now, my problem splits down in two parts, both requiring an answer, please.

 1) How shoud I have to set file/folder permissions (and on which
items/contents) to reenable ordinary users to read their DRM-protected music
?
Note : I seriously suppose that License files are stored in the
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM\" folder.
 2) If I consider my system no far from completely broken and unusable, I
would logically want to reinstall Windows XP SP1->SP2, wouldn't I ?
Now I ask myself, if I do so and with a backup of my audio files
only (not the lisence files MPlayer can download again), will they become
readable again ?
If a license says "This user can read this file.", on what
information do Windows rely on to check whether I am THE user allowed to
read this file ?
I seemed to understand that my licenses are bound to the "All Users"
user (and stored in the "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM\" folder)
so that everyone using My Copy of Windows XP would be able to read this
audio file ; am I right ? And if I reinstall My Copy of Windows XP, its
numerical identifier would not change, allowing me to listen to my files
again from any user account (since the system will be clear, usable).

Could someone help me fast ?

Thanks,
Val.
