After a little more snooping I found the problem.
NIS was blocking the connection. This was not something
that I had set so how it did get set to block I don't know.
I had this type of problem once before with IE. The
setting in NIS firewall had changed to block IE. Maybe
LiveUpdates somehow changes these settings?
