Hello, after taking the steps below my AVI files still won't play.
Closing the edge of insanity, would someone have a suggestion or clue where
to look for next....???
Thanks a lot! DanzolH
=> system:
Windows XP Pro -SP2
Windows media player 10 (alternative players are WinAmp Pro 5.05 and Quick
time 6.5.1)
=> Problem:
My PC is not able to run AVI files anymore - both "regular" AVI (e.g.
downloaded) and AVI (M-JPEG form digi camera).
The strange thing is that both WMP en WinAmp do not play AVI files (other
formats than AVI are ok)...but Quick Time IS able to play the same AVI files
=> Attempted solutions;
0. read articles @ http://msmvps.com/chrisl/articles/10453.aspx;
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/codecs.aspx etc
1. read newsgroups on "C00D1199, AVI, codec" on
2. Check WMP10 settings, eg automatic download codec ticked
2. install codec for WMP 9 (WM9Codecs.exe)
3. reinstall WMP 10
4. upgrade to DirectX 9.0c
5. Install ffdshow-20020617.exe @
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=53761
6. Install ffdshow-20020923.exe @ @
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=53761
5. Download & install GSpot tool @ http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
(excellent tool! gspot221.exe)
Tool reports: although the tools mentions that (multiple) suitable codecs
are installed for my test AVI (actually any AVI I try), the AVI file(s) will
not render (play)
The tools instructions say that when the file does not render, the
file is probably corrupted (...well, Quick time is still able to play it)
4. downloaded Sherlock Codec Detective @
http://www.updatexp.com/sherlock-codec-detective.html) An excellent tool that
lists all your codecs and their status
Tool reports: I've plenty(..tons) of codecs installed, no "broken"
codecs present. See list below
6. Desperately installed a few more codecs: DivX 5.11, Morgan Multimedia
M-Jpeg 3.009, VP6 VFW
7. More desperate...update video drivers, check video devices
8. ....................@$#%@#$!!!!
9. Post item on newgroup.. :-(
