Third party codec's have nothing (zero) to do with WMP. DirectShow is the
key here, that doesn't change a bit with WMP 8 vs 9 vs 10. Plus, hinted by
"third party", Microsoft doesn't produce any of the codec's. If they don't
work, it's not WMP that is the problem, it's DirectShow or the codec itself.
However, you havn't said what your problem is....

Maybe a good start would be the WMP help file, the web help page, reading
posts (and replies), searching, etc?
