I believe I have messed myself up by fooling around with regedit. Now I
cannot play AVI files or WMV files (maybe more). I get the error message
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. One or more codecs required to
play the file could not be found.".
I have researched what the error means, and tried the following with no
results:
Installing Win Media Codecs
Installing other AVI codecs like DIVx, XVID, and others
Installed codec paks like YMPEG, The-Codecs, etc.
I always get the error message. I cannot remember what I actually got rid
of, but didn't back up the registy. It's been about a month of trying. I even
reversed Win Media 10 back to 9 and reinstalled version 10 again to no avail.
This has also affected my ability to burn AVI files to DVD format using
Intervideo Win DVD Creator 2 (which did work before the mess up). I can't
figure out what I'm missing or how to reinstall SOMETHING to get back to
where I was without having to reinstall Win XP.
I'm running XP service pack 2. Any suggestions???? Please??
