I'd suggest starting by reading the help files on these two features, then
post questions here and i'll try to follow up.
Whenever you edit metadata in the library, we write it back to the files
(assuming you have write permissions to the file and the metadata is
something we flush--for instance, we don't write custom 1/2 metadata and a
few other things). To speed this up (WMP10), choose tools/process media
information now.
Generally:
(when enabled)
Rename--if your edit any of the metadata specified in tools/options, rip
tab (hit the file name button), we will rename your file per your settings
(regardless of location).
Regroup--if you edit either album artist or album metadata, we will regroup
the file accordingly in your rip directory.
Downloading metadata automatically has the same effect--we write it to the
files, and rename/regroup accordingly.
