Why is WMP 9 so slow when I start it?

I have WMP 9 on my old computer which is only an Athlon
600 mhz with 256 mb of RAM, and WMP works fine, and fast
right from the time I start it.
Its not the same on my newer computer which has a
Pentium4 2.2 mhz, and also 256 mb of RAM. When I start
it, and I go just to the menu bar, and for example click
on Tools, Options, then it just freezes up and doesn't
react for 5 - 10 minutes. Or I try to play a song and it
does the same, it hangs for about 5 - 10 minutes while
stuck on Opening... It didn't use to be like this
before, just for about the last month. After I get the
first song playing, then I can do anything and it reacts
properly, but its just annoyingly slow at the start.
Please help me get it to work properly again, thank you!
