Excessive buffering on WMP 7.01

I'm running WIN98SE.

Before I had to reinstall everything on a new HD, WMP was okay, there was
one period of initial buffering right at the start and that was it. What I'm
getting now is constant buffering at least once a minute - it varies.
Constant buffering happens on all feeds.

Problem should not be my connection, it's about 150K.

I initially downloaded WMP 9, but removed it, then of course I had to apply
a registry fix to get Format tab to show.

I've installed WMP 7.01 twice.

Anyone know what the problem could be?
