Windows Media Player wont open

I have been having problems with windows media player. When I try to open it it makes a noise but does not open. I removed the program from Add/Remove programs. I reinstalled it in Add/Remove programs and it still wont work. I went online and tried to download Media Player 9 and or fixes for the program but when I push the download button ot redirects me to some other web page. I guess a virus or program is trying to prevent me from fixing my media player. Any solutions. I have been having a problem with the ISEARCH toolbar that added itself to my windows internet explorer. Are these problems related. Is ISEARCH a trojan horse that screws up media player.
