Here are the questions my friend on the DRM says should help define your
problem:
What ISP are you using to connect to the Internet?
What is your connection speed?
When you go the Premium Services tab as listed in Media Player, what
services do you currently have installed? Napster, Movielink, etc... ?
What exact version of WMP are you using? (Check WMP's Help:About menu for
this)
What exact version of Internet Explorer are you using? (Check IE's
Help:About menu for this)
What exact OS version are you using? (You can check the version of
kernel32.dll on your system to know this version number)
What server are you having this trouble with?
How are you connected to the Internet? Is there a personal firewall, NAT,
proxy, or are you directly connected to the Internet?
Could you please provide the results of navigating the following link. We
will use the browser to simulate what the Windows Media Player is doing.
However, this will *not* actually individualize your player or directly
solve your problem. We will merely be determining whether or not your
computer can communicate with the indivualization (security upgrade) servers
over the internet.
Let's begin by clicking on the following link:
http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=wmdrm&sbp=indi&pver=2&os=win
As you will notice the URL to the redir.dll instructs your browser to
navigate to the Individualization site by placing the following in the
address field:
https://wmdrm.partners.extranet.microsoft.com/indi/WmDrmIndiIsapi.dll?petition
This site then returns to the player the actual URL the player will use to
individualize. That is the following string that you should see in your
browser window if this was successful:
drm_indi_acquire_redirect:
http://wmdrm.partners.extranet.microsoft.com/indi/WmDrmIndiIsapi.dll?Individualize
This is not a solution, but it will help to identify where in the
individualization (security upgrade) process things are breaking down.
If this was not successful, then please click on the following link to
bypass the redir.dll. This may help determine if communication failed with
the redir.dll or with the individualization servers.
https://wmdrm.partners.extranet.microsoft.com/indi/WmDrmIndiIsapi.dll?petition
Again you should see the following in your browser window upon success:
drm_indi_acquire_redirect:
http://wmdrm.partners.extranet.microsoft.com/indi/WmDrmIndiIsapi.dll?Individualize
