yet begun the copying process. I had to close WMP, then reopen it to have
the changes included.

take the cd out of the burner, and hit the copy button. You may get the
error message to insert a cd. Do this and then press copy.

the incessant windows hotfixes), I had to archive most of my music as data
(.cd). To do this I right-clicked on the selection and choose the "copy to
cd" option. When burning time arrived, I was asked if I wanted to copy the
music as data (it gave the downside of doing this, but left the decision to
me - how unmicrosoft!). I said yes, and it made accurate copies, bypassing
WMP. The only bad thing about this was when I put the cd into the drive to
play, the contents registered as .cd1 (1.cd? I forget), .cd2, etc, but the
player recognized the music. If I want to get Monk-ish about it, I can
always rename.

No quite sure what I did the first time (or the second time either), but I
managed to get it to copy for a second time (so it's managed to burn two CDs
so far). I've tired ejecting and reinserting, using a brand new CD-R, and
even restarting my computer... the only thing I did different I think was
that I had the CD-R opened as a window in Explorer... wonder if that did
anything.

Okay getting kinda OT here but what programs out there allows me to burn a
bunch of randomly picked tracks onto a CD-R (as data-CDs)? I use WMP for
it's autolist and copying features. It works fine with my MP3 Player, but
it doesn't seem to like burning to CDs. I would manually copy files onto
the CD-Rs myself, but I'd rather have a surprise collection of songs waiting
for me when I turn my CD player on...
