RE: Unable to play wmv files from websites

Hello tha10, Yes, my web browsing came back after the total restore. Make
sure that you backup your personal files before you restore. My restore took
me back to day 1 on my computer. Unfortunately, this is a microsoft glitch
and the people at Gateway might not be familiar with how to fix it. Maybe
service pack 1 for vista might include the fix but it's a long way from being
released.

hang in there.

Jake,
After you restored your computer, did your media player work like it was
suppose to on web sites? Did you do a total restore? I was just wondering
if it fixed your problem.

Hey tha10, since you did a total restore and nothing was different you might
try to reinstall IE7 again. (perhaps with a registry cleanup and drive
clean) also, be sure to load all of the windows updates. (yes, it's fishing
but it can't hurt to try)

I am having the same problems. I have posted this problem in other places
and the responses did not help. I did like Jake did, I restored my computer
and everything and I still cannot play wmv files on media player on the
internet. I go to the web site and click to play and nothing happens. I
have a vista premium gateway computer that is new. I don't know what else to
do to fix this problem. I contacted gateway and they did an online check on
my computer and everything is working okay. So, they could not help me
either. If you find a solution, please let me know.
Thanks,
Terrie

Hey Christine, the fix is nowhere in site. I did a total restore to my
computer in order to get the browser and media player to work together. Good
luck.

I used to be able to play wmv files from websites simply by clicking on the
links - Windows Media Player 11 would launch and the video would play. Now
this doesn't happen - I get an error screen suggesting I'm not connected to
the Internat (when I am) or a white screen (on a framed site). The only way
I can play the wmv files id to right-click "save target as" and then
double-click the file on my hard drive. I haven't (knowingly) changed any
settings on my PC. Is this a Windows Update issue? How can I get my PC
back to behaving as I want it?

Running Vista Home Premium, IE7, WMP 11. No third party firewall.
Kaspersky AV 7.0.
