I went to a web page - played the video - it appears to download as a dat
file. It opens in Windows Media Player. I can open the dat file in my
browser files but if I place it anywhere else on my hard drive it won't
open. I tried renaming it to WMV it won't open. I can't save as in
windows media player.
I download a movie from limewire and get I need the right codec ... When I download a movie file from limewire I open it and Windows media player...opens up but then displays a message saying Windows Media Player cannot play ... One or more codecs required to play the file could not be found. ... What codecs will I need to download to play this .avi file? ... (microsoft.public.windowsmedia.player)

Another page opens but may say you have to wait a while - do so - then click download again and choose the server of your choice - 'cogent' usually works OK. ... I have made the 9min video as small as is practicable keeping reasonable quality but it is still 36M so dial-up people may want to skip this!! ... Should open OK in Windows media player....
