Yeah looks like you're right on that - evein with stretchToFit = true
it's not stretching to fill the canvas width.
You might want to look at Silverlight effects (particularly the
ScaleTransform element) to do that step :

It does mean rewriting the page though (and requiring users to have
the Silverlight control). Luckily, that control is supported across
more platforms and browsers uniformly, including Max OSX, Linux (using
Mono's Moonlight) and Firefox.
