Re: WMP browser control doesn't work

Thanks for all the detail. In fact it should be a pretty simple fix
for you. The page is explicitly set to load the old version of media
player, version 6.4 (also called "mplayer2"). No, I don't know why
they did this either - WMP7 was out in 1999, 7 years ago !

Anyway, that player 6.4 has completely separate codecs than the
current versions of the player. So all you should need is copies of
the codec package for the 6.4 player, to let it play WMV9 video.

If you go to the bottom of this page :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/format/codecdownload.aspx

Download and install the 6.4 player codec install package, which
should solve your codec issue below. There could *still* be other,
unrelated issues to solve but that's the best initial step.

Embedded WMP Controls on web pages will not work on my XP Pro System. This is
what happens:

The page loads, and the control displays the WM logo and a message "Click to
activate control" or something similar. However clicking the control does
nothing or the word "Opening" flashes briefly.

The error info reads: "The source filter for this file could not be loaded.
(Error=80040241)"

I looked it up and found that the "Error=80040241" message means that I am
trying to stream an unsupported file type. However, the problem occurs
any time a web page containing the WMP embedded control is loaded, even on
pages I have loaded successfully and streamed video from before.

One example is from www.football365.com in which case the web page freezes
altogether and I have to use task manager to end the browser process.

Another is the liverpoolfc.tv site where the streaming content will not run
in the embedded window, though it will if started in a detached window. I
checked the details of the file that I got running in the detached window.
They were as follows :

Bit rate: 250 Kbps
Media type: Video
Video size: 320 x 240
Aspect Ratio: 4:3
Audio codec: Windows Media Audio 9.1
32 kbps, 44 kHz mono 1-pass CBR
Video codec: Windows Media Video 9

I did post this in another group, but I got no interest there, and this
group looks like it might be more appropriate anyway. My apologies if that
has inconvenienced anyone.

I'm praying someone might be able to help with this.

Many thanks in advance
