I am unable to run WMP9 on my new intel MacBook so I followed the
instructions to install Flip4Mac. I was able to successfully install.
However, when I try to play a video from cnn.com using either Safari or
Firfox, I still get a message indicating that WMP9 is needed and cannot be
found. Please provide me with some help as far as what I can do. Thanks.
Well are you sure Flip4Mac WMV was properly installed?? Can you watch
any other streams in Windows Media format??

I have no problem playing the videos on CNN for instance.
Double-check for instnace that the plugin is properly installed in

ps. I thought Macs were supposed to be easy :-)

They usually are. It doesn't mean that everybody making software for Mac
will make good software though (read Windows Media Player for Mac).
In this case, the folks at Flip4Mac have to workaround poor coding on a
lot of sites to get their plkug-ins to work. Some sites try to use
Active X (which only works in Internet Explorer for Windows) when others
try to check whether you have WMP (and which version) instead of simply
checking whether you can simply play the Windows Media format they
offer.

The Mac is not difficult to use, but on a few sites created with only
Windows in mind, we sometimes have to find workarounds. I blame the web
designers :->

One limitation you have to be aware of: the Flip4Mac codecs will not
play DRM-protected content since the DRM format is not public (or shared
outside MS as far as I know).

Corentin

As one who never uses Windows, even the news websites are starting to
change from funky Windows-only videos to things that play on Macs.

My feeling, with all the content out there on the web, you aren't
missing anything that doesn't play correctly. Someone else has it that
will - or, you really don't need it anyway.
