You'll probably need to flash the ROM of the internal DVD player to make
it region-free and then use an app like Region X to reset it to a
different region. As suggested by Mark, there are sites and newsgroups
much better adapted to these questions.

I really sympathize. I have the greatest distaste for the Region
implementation and as far as I am concerned, region-locking is nothing
short of illegal. I bought DVDs when I used to live in France and I sure
don't see why I couldn't play them anymore now that I live in the US.
And what am-I supposed to do to play (properly bought) new French movies
now ??? What will happen to the DVDs I bought here when I move back in
France??? This is a bad move from the movie industry that does nothing
but incitate people to illegally get movies of the web. And don't tell
me they need this to cover localization costs - most of the movies I
want to see are simply NOT available in the US. This is ridiculous.
