Firefox is bringing up the WMP6.4 player, not WMP9. Is this on
Win2000? It's more of a problem on Win2000 than on XP. A registry file
..reg download is one of the fixes to set the embedding to the WMP9
version.
The Mozillazine site has lots of useful info about FF and WMP :

In general you want to totally avoid this "embed" lark, have a look on
Alistapart at the article on "Flash Satay" and the more recent article
on embedding while maintaining standards.
I'll try to look at the site on the weekend if I can fit it in, but no
promises due to a lot of projects on the go.

Neil--of course I read the documentation. I'm serious about this--this is not------------------------------------------------
a frivolous post--I'm trying to find solutions.
I appreciate your attention and hope that you'll share any other tips about
this. If ypu connect to
http://collt.no-ip.org:8080/komm/wmv/GdeYaZhil-2-Kitchen.html with IE and
also with Firefox, you'll see that Firefix shows a clip info panel. I can't
get IE to display that.
More importantly, if I omit the Embed tag and use only the OBJECT tag,
Firefox displays an empty window.
Gratefully,

I find it hard to believe you didn't read the documentation.
Showdisplay="1" is replaced by uiMode="full" or uiMode="mini"
Other values are uiMode="none" and uiMode="hidden"

Thanks, Neil! I looked and found nothing new. The OBJECT embed as described------------------------------------------------
at that MDSN page does not work for Firefox--nothing is displayed in the FF
window--and also the showdisplay='1' parameter that I can use in the EMBED
tag doesn't seem to have an equivalent in the OBJECT parameters at the MDSN
page.
What am I missing?

EMBED is deprecated in XHTML anyway, so you don't want to be using
that. Ensure when reading online docs that you draw a complete
distinction between WMP6.4 object model and properties, and that for
WMP7 - 11, which also uses a different classID in IE.

Oddly enough, I found bits and pieces of directiosn for embedding a Windows------------------------------------------------
Media object/Embed in HTML pages, but I can't find one autjhoritative and
complete listing of all parameters and CLASSIDs fr Media Player 9 and 10.
Some Web sites show only the EMBED params, others only some of the OBJECT
params.
E.g., the showstatusbar param works for me in FF, but does not work in IE 6.
Conversely, the volume param works in IE but not in FF.
It would also be helpful to know all the vertical dimensions of various
controls for various versions of the player.
Where is a good write-up for these details and differences?
Thanks!
