Re: Server name: What to enter?

)I use the free DynDNS Updater from www.dyndns.com to provide a
psuedo-permanent URL (as each time I reboot my broadband provider gives me a
new IP address).

Did that, got a funky name with a .net extention. What should I do with it?

Dont want to save the show, we do several per week. If they miss one they
can catch the next.

So, where does that leave me.
Up cyber creek without a laser pointer !!!

I do thankyou for your input, but im just not getting it. I have a n inside
LAN I.P. which is different to my outside I.P. Which is now the DynDNS thing.
Windows media player........
They hit file, open URL.......then type in what?

I sometimes broadcast live friends/family stuff on a *pull* basis.

I advise them well ahead of time when the broadcast will be (usually using
their local time, although they are getting savvy to UTC -aka GMT- and
associated timezone offsets now).

They can open a fixed URL (which I have informed them of) in Windows Media
Player and get the broadcast live. I have trained them to go File, Open
URL... in WMP (rather than File, Open...)

I use the free DynDNS Updater from www.dyndns.com to provide a
psuedo-permanent URL (as each time I reboot my broadband provider gives me a
new IP address).

I also save the live feed to file in the WME options so that I can save,
edit and post it to a website where those that missed the live event can
download my edited version later.

You're right though - if too many tune in for the live event it might
degrade (depends on your upload speed & compression factor - audio is
negligible - video will be the hog).

Bottom line - save to high quality file for others to grab when it suits
them - and run a live session for those that really want to watch live... If
you are saving at the limits of your camera/mic (no point in doing
otherwise) then the live viewers will only be hampered by your upload rate.

Word of warning - when you save to file - if you stop and restart encoding
the file will be overwritten (unless you go into options and specify a new
file name). Pause is OK. I lost half my daughters' 3rd birthday party
because of this "feature" (luckily someone else was videoing to DV cam ...
so I substituted that )

Bottom Line two - make saving to file your first priority, live broadcast
second. It's nice for folks to watch live - but even better to have them
watch an edited version with higher quality. Also do you plan to use more
than one camera/mic (I have 3 cameras that I can flip between during live
broadcasts).

Anyway some food for thought - not sure how it matches up with your
objectives... feel free to ask more

Thanks for the reply, and no offence taken. You are right, I dont know
what
im doing, however, I do know what I want to do.
Simply, stream live video and audio (of my band) to about 10 - 15 people,
wherever they may be in the world.
My computer is connected to a Lynksys wireless router. However its hard
wired (not using wireless, Thats for another computer) then to my
Roadrunner
cable modem.
So, to broadcast to more than 5 people I thought I had to push the feed to
a
server and they picked it up from there.
I tunned my firewall off, got an outside I.P. address (I think) but no one
gets my feed.
Any pointers.

No offence but it sounds like you don't really know what you are doing.

What is your objective? In other words what are you trying to achieve
with
WME?

Let's address that first to see if a push to a server is what you need to
do...

Under the output tab on Windows Media Encoder, to push a live stream to
a
server what should be entered in Server Name.
How do I find a server Name? Is it an I.P Address?
