Obviously it's NOT that simple! If it was, you wouldn't be having any problems, would
you?

***
For all you know your ISP is blocking port 8080!

***
Since, originally, I could see http://mytrueexternalIPaddress:8080 and it WORKED from
work, I naively assumed that that meant that my ISP could NOT be blocking port 8080 UNLESS
they only do it for NON-explicit IP addresses (which I will guess they don't).

Saying it's simple
is not going to MAKE it simple.

***
It is simple from the standpoint of knowing which questions to ask.

The problem here is your lack of knowledge in regards to firewalls and networks.

***
If I had the knowledge to solve this problem, I wouldn't have asked here (or anywhere
else).

It's like trying to explain a piston engine to someone who has never even looked under
the hood and keeps insisting an engine is simple.

I'll say this one more time: Turn off ANY firewall you have (including XP's firewall)
and try your tests again.

***
Since port 8080 ORIGINALLY worked from work, I assumed (naively) that whatever firewall
setttings I had MUST be working since I CAN connect from work (i.e. not from home).

If you aren't willing to follow
troubleshooting steps without jumping to conclusions ("this is simple") then you're on
your own. I bet you didn't even bother going to the grc URL I gave you, did you?

***
I looked at it but it looked like you had to buy the product. Website wasn't user
friendly.
