transcoding .vob to .wmv...Then doing it in batch??

I've finally found a combination that sort of works for transcoding vob files
to wmv. I have Win2003 with an Intel 3.2 dual core, hyper threaded processor
and 2gb memory. I have my movie files on LaCie 2 tb, Firewire 800 interface
disks. I installed the Elecard MPEG-2 Video Decoder Package 2.1 and
installed AC3Filter v1_01a_RC5, along with AVISynth v2.5.6a and DGMPGDec
(DGIndex & DGDecode).

What I do is use DGIndex to demux the audio into its respective AC3 file and
create the AVISynth script (.AVS). AVISynth frameserves the video to wme 9.

movie.avs contains:
setmemorymax=64
loadplugin("C:\Program Files\AviSynth 2.5\plugins\DGDecode.dll")
mpeg2source("N:\DVDs\movies\movie.d2v",cpu=6)

In wme 9 I use the device and file setting to load the .avs file in as my
video source and use the audio setting to load the .ac3 file. [I do it like
this because if I attempt to use the .AVS to frameserve both audio and video,
WME crashes. If I simply change the file extension from .vob to .mpg and
load it as a single file, WME crashes or if it does run, gives me a file with
no audio.]

After I load the 2 input sources, WME9 goes off in quiet submission for 1-2
minutes and then allows me to make other changes. I put in the output file
name etc. I select the compression setting I want to use. I've found that
any setting that uses 2 pass encoding crashes WME. So I've developed
functionally equivalent single pass settings for "File download (computer
playback)". In this setting I use wm video 9 and wm audio 9.1 pro to
preserve the 5.1 surround sound for playback on my network media device
(which is connected to my TV and surround sound amplifier). I add the movie
title under attributes and under processing I also select inverse telecine.
I've saved this encoding session as mediaplayer.wme and exported the settings
as mediaplayer.prx.

I do the same for encoding to streaming format, only I use wm audio 9.1
instead of 9.1 Pro. I select multiple bitrates and of course change the
output file. I've saved this encoding session as streaming.wme and exported
the settings as streaming.prx.

I do the same for encoding to Pocket PC wide except that I change from the
preset profile and use wm video 9 instead of 8. I change the output file and
I've saved this encoding session as pocketpc.wme and exported the settings as
pocketpc.prx.

Since I want to do this same processing for all of the videos in my
collection and for all of the sports game tapes I've done of my children's
soccer games, I thought why not batch encode them?

I've tried looking at cscript wmcmd.vbs -input [I don't see how to input the
two sources .avs and .ac3] -output movie_STR.wmv -loadprofile streaming.prx
-vmode 0. Since using a single file either as a .mpg or .avs crashes wme and
I haven't figured out how to load the .avs and the .ac3 as inputs I haven't
been able to make this work.

I've tried putting the following 3 commands into a batchencode.cmd file.
cscript wmcmd.vbs -wme streaming.wme
cscript wmcmd.vbs -wme mediaplayer.wme
cscript wmcmd.vbs -wme pocketpc.wme

They all crash with an error message:
N:\DVDs\Movies\wmcmd.vbs<3511, 4> <null>: No such interface supported.
It must be able to process some of it, because it creates the output file
with 6 kb in it.

I've tried using BatchEncoder.exe, but I can find no documentation. It
won't open the .wme files as xml, and when I put in the separate .ac3 file
and .avs files as sources, it creates two separate batch jobs! I tried using
a program I found on the web called pgc.Net to merge the individual .vob
files into a single .vob. I changed the name of this file from .vob to .mpg
which includes audio and video and fed it to BatchEncoder. When I clicked on
start it went off to La-La land for about 3 minutes and then started eating
it. This program takes the .prx profile, you set the preprocessing to
Inverse telecine, give it the output and title and away it goes. It will be
interesting to see if I have audio in the .wmv file. This is what made wme9
unusable for feeding it a .mpg (renamed .vob) because I had no audio in the
file when all was said and done. It is running 55% utilization of one cpu,
hardly anything on the other cpu. It stopped displaying the video a short
time ago and the program has been showing 14% completion for a long time now.
I suspect that it died but the cpu is still fluctuating +/- 5% so I've leave
it go for awhile and let you know what happens. The program remains
responsive when I minimize/maximize it, but after 25 minutes the completion
is still at 14%. If this works, it will definitely be a time saver.

I'm not exactly new to this stuff, but I'm far from technically competent
either.
Am I on the right track here or do you see some better ways to accomplish
this in fewer steps which produce reliable results?? [I say this because many
times wme 9 starts a conversion and then dies. I restart the encode with out
changing anything and it finishes just fine] This is very frustrating. I've
been working on this testing different combinations and researching the web
for weeks now.
