can't rip music to mp3 format using WMP10

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hello,

I am using WMP10. When i try to rip an audio cd to mp3 format I receive the
msg. "Windows Media Player cannot rip the track because a compatible MP3
encoder is not installed on your computer. Install a compatible MP3 encoder
or choose a different format to rip to (such as Windows Media Audio)." I
believe WMP10 already comes with an mp3 encoder. What seems to be the problem?
.
