Thanks for your help Neil. To answer your questions, yea, everything
(recording and playback) both work fine even after the card disappears from
encoder.

In one machine, we used the Sound Blaster Live sound card, the other was
onboard, built into the motherboard, so we used that one, instead of moving
the Sound Blaster card over. So it's happened with two completely different
sound cards in two different machines.

I wonder if Gary is on to something.... We do access this server remotely
from time to time, but audio mapping is disabled on it, so I don't know if
that would still cause problems connecting remotely... Any ideas?
