Hi,

A late catcher on this thread. We had the same issue, so this _may_ help you
... We had two identical and poweful machines with one Osprey card on each
for live feed streaming. The encoding went just fine on both machines and
suddenly hung, without any notice, in random times. The process kept
running, but with 0% CPU utilization. So, we had to keep an eye on them and
restart the encoding sessions before a user called to report the problem.

We checked on the ViewCast site and they did reference (by that time) that
there is an issue with their WDM drivers (3.x series) not being able to
support 24x7 encoding. The provided solution was to use the VfW drivers (2.x
series). We did so and since then (about two months ago) the encoding never
stopped. I rechecked today, but I couldn't manage to find this exact piece
of information. However, the RC4 release of WDM drivers references that
there is a known issue with this specific version and guess what the issue
is ... :-)

A more weird fix could be the following: "If your display adapter is based
on a NVidia GeForce FX 5200/5600, or similiar chip, you must use a NVidia
driver 5.6.7.2 dated 3/24/2004 or later. We have verified that this version
works correctly when used with our product. With earlier NVidia drivers
video capture may stop after several hours; NVidia driver 5.2.1.6 dated
10/06/2003 is known to have this problem." OK, this comes from Viewcast, but
it may hold for others too.

Furthermore, I found on Google that there are also some issues with power
management and the like, so you could try disabling all the power management
features just to be sure that the OS does not put the capture card in sleep
mode for whatever reason.

I don't claim to be an expert on these (actually they look too weird for
me), so I may be totally wrong, but driver downgrade solved our problem for
the moment.

Regards,
Artemios.
