Right in all assumptions. I suppose you are in IFO mode? As you click on
each stream there is a check box for demux, direct copy, also confirm that
direct stream copy is selected, should be since that is the default.

The higher the frame rate the better. But converting frame rates isn't
better. Native frame rate is the best. I would say just leave it default.
29.97 if in the US, and probably 25 if using PAL (Europe).

frame reference?, You mean key frame interval. My take on that is that if
you never ever, want to edit and use that video for clips then a higher
number should get you a smaller file. But if you want to edit you can only
cut on a key (full, not interpolated?) frame so set it to 1 so that there
are more cut points available. I think that number is only a maximum
guaranteed key frame interval. If the encoder needs more key frames to
maintain the quality, it will create them.

I always use VBR I guess to get the minimum file size with the greatest
quality, but there are occasions when CBR could be better maybe for certain
hardware devices, or if top quality is desired even if the file size grows.
