Re: Mac system problem with MS Office for Mac

Yeah, I know what you mean - I've been very fortunate in not having to A/I
but twice, but no matter what anyone else's experience may be I've had to
re-install nearly *all* of my software after each one.

It's just that the Entourage database, Office Identities, Scripts, and other
stuff is stored in the MUD so it's not usually a recommended technique - at
least not without also pointing out the potential losses. It's better to
*move* or *rename* it rather than arbitrarily delete it :-)

Bob, the only thing I lost by that action were some personal templates that I
quickly re-created. Kind of like losing your wallet to find it again, missing
only a recipe that you you knew by heart anyway.

Considering the alternative--not having the program run at all and trying
super-detailed and massive fixes, archive and installs that had no impact
anyway--deleting the MUD folder was a godsend.

Shouldn't be necessary, not to mention that the is "other stuff" in that
folder which is user-specific & that doesn't get recreated - it's like
throwing away your wallet & having another magically appear but without your
license, credit cards, etc.

I fixed my problem by deleting the Microsoft User Data folder from the
Library in my home account. Everything worked fine after that, and a new
Microsoft User Data folder was immediatley created. Not saying that will
work
here, but might be worth a try, no?

It sounds like you may have recently done an Archive & Install or something
of that nature which often requires reinstalling certain programs, but I
can't speak directly to the issue with QX or Palm. Also, for any future
posting you'd do better to use the appropriate Mac Office groups instead of
this one. You can get there from Mactopia:

And always be sure to specify exact versions of OS X & Office.

Similar messages appear on opening Word and Powerpoint.

I've also had problems with QuarkXPress preferences and my Palm Desktop
software!
