Broken Memory Slot (plastics clasps) Need Advice

I put some new memory in my iMAC (in the main slot - center - 333 mhz - an
old one). I broke the little plastic clasps on each side that secures the
memory. If you're familiar with this, after breaking the clasps, the memory
doesn't clamp down as it should. So I got some very thin string and tied it
down to secure it in place as it is supposed to be. I put the broken plastic
clasps in their place as well. After tying it down and putting it back
together, minus screws and keyboard and mouse, it started OK. It was upside
down as well so I pulled the power cord out so I could put it back together.
After putting it back together it now will not start. I have had it apart 3
or 4 times, switched memory around, done all I could think of.........but it
will not power on. Anyone have any ideas???? Thanks.
