will launch.....The OS Password would be the login screen for Windows....It
sounds like it probably is the OS PW and a reformat of the drive will take
care of that...Boot from a Windows installation disk or a restore disk that
came with the laptop to reformat and reinstall the OS....
You can find a Windows News Group at this link or I will try to help you....

My apologies if I put this in the wrong group. I was unaware that MS had
software for MAC. The computer is a Dell.
As for your other question, please excuse my ignorance here, but how would
I
know
where the password resides? My guess is it's in the OS, but I really
don't
know. I don't use passwords and my daughter is not very computer savy, so
what is in Windows XP.
How do I find the proper news group?
thanks for your patience and response.

Is the computer a Mac or PC? I ask since this a Mac newsgroup but in your
post you talk about windows....
If it is a PC then...
Is the password on the OS or a Bios password? If it is on the OS then if
you
have the OS install Disk You Can Reformat the Hard Drive and reinstall
the
OS....If it is in the Bios then you may need to get a new system board
installed to remove the password....

My daughter has lost her password to her laptop, which has been
complicated
by the fact that she has changed it several times and never wrote it
down.
I've looked over many of the responses about "lost passwords", but none
seem
applicable to our unique problem.
The computer is using Windows XP Proffesional. My daugher was the only
user
on the account and never set up an administrator for the account. When
the
computer is turned on a windows comes up which ask for user name and
password.
I have tried going through the safe mode, hitting ctrl-alt-del twice
and
then typing Administrator and using no password, 'amin' as a password.
Nove
of these things work.
The data on this computer is not important, I will gladly sacrifice my
daughter's files for a functioning computer otherwise we have a big
paper
weight.
Help me Obiwan, your my only hope!
