Re: Webcam

I have been wrestling with this too, and there's no easy answer. I have
researched in depth the problem of getting iChat to work with AIM, but very
very few people have been able to do so, and I have not. I have tried
several video chatting apps, but the only thing that has worked so far is
having both people using Yahoo Instant Messenger, but this is far from
perfect -- the Mac user gets a very herky jerky video feed from the PC user,
but the PC user gets a half-decent feed from the iChat user if s/he uses an
iSight camera (by far the best one out there). Supposedly, there are some
video conferencing clients available that have good quality video but which
require the use of a paid service as a go-between, but I refuse to pay for
this.

One day video chat between PC and Mac will work well, and I believe it will
happen soon. But just to show your wife that Macs are indeed great, try
establishing an iChat-to-iChat video chat with another Mac user -- she will
be amazed at the vastly superior experience over PC chatting. You can find
other Mac video chatters using a freeware application called Masq (which can
be found at Versiontracker.com). I believe Masq's main purpose is
introducing iChatters who wish to "enjoy" themselves privately, but I had no
problem finding nice people in faraway lands who merely wished to meet new
people. I used it only once, but for the same purpose mentioned above -- to
show my PC wife that Mac is a superior platform for video chatting. Good
luck.
