Kevin-
I wonder if you can find out by running the Software Update control
panel? If so, the correct version of update would be downloaded without
you needing to know.
As I recall, there was a firmware update for my old Beige G3 Minitower
machine. Installation wasn't completely automatic, so you had to follow
directions after downloading it.
One other thing you may not be aware of, is that recent versions of OS X
won't install on older Macs. The Beige G3 for example, only works up to
OS 10.2.8 without hacking it.
