When you first start up an OSX system, it runs an assistant that will ask
you questions regarding your internet access and mail settings. It will then
    configure the system for you.

If you've already started up OSX for the first time, click the blue apple in
the menu bar, select System Preferences, click the Network icon, click the
pulldown menu by "Show:" and select the method by which you connect to the
internet (modem would be for dialup, Built-in Ethernet would be for DSL,
Cable, or a Local Area Network (LAN) connection.) Fill in the fields with
the appropriate info provided by your internet service provider or network
    admin.

For mail, choose either the included Mail application (it's a good one) or
Entourage. For Mail, choose preferences, then accounts. If you need to set
up a new account, click the + at the bottom left of the window, fill in your
mail settings as given to you by your ISP/Network Admin. For Entrourage,
click the Entourage menu, select Account Settings, click the Mail tab, click
New at the top, enter info as before. Voila!

Also, if you've recently purchased your Mac new, you have 90 days of free
phone support. Call Apple for a step by step real-time walkthrough of how to
    configure it. (800-APL-CARE)
