    I have a PowerBook G4 running OS X 10.2.8 and Windows 98 (not SE)
I have a wireless hub that came from my DSL provider, ethernet to PC and
    Airport card to Mac

Configuration isn't exactly the same so don't know if this will apply but I
was getting this error too. I had turned on Sharing on both systems but
when I went to connect from my Mac it would give me that error

I checked all kinds of links and never saw anybody reference this but this
is what worked for me . . .

I added the PC logon username as an account on my Mac and turned on "allow
user to log in from Windows"

Fixed! although I still can't do printer sharing . . . Research has taken
me to Ghostscript (??) But haven't read about that yet . . .

    Good luck
