It has no effect on VPC for Mac. No announcement has been made about the

True, it has no CURRENT affect on the Mac version. We'll have to wait
and see if there's any announcment at some later stage ... maybe, maybe
not.

If Microsoft are giving VirtualPC away to Windows users, but making Mac
users pay for it, then someone is almost certainly going to start
kicking up a fuss about it ... especially in America where they can sue
just because someone breathes in the wrong way.

It seems sensible that either Microsoft will also give away the Mac
version as well, or the Mac version is about to be killed off
completely.

Not really. VPC for Mac and VPC for Windows are targeted at (and used
by ) completely different markets.

VPC for Windows is and has always been targeted at corporate markets
for testing, app compatibility, etc and not the end-user market. This
was true back in the Connectix days too ( selling 1 copy to user (Mac
version) and selling 100, 500, 1000 licenses to a company ).

MS has positioned VPC for Windows as a testing and development tool,
and many of the users in the market already had access to VPC for free
via MSDN subscriptions.
