Michael,
Thanks. My d drive is in the same location, but I'm unfamiliar with OS X Finder (I'm still new to the Mac World). If I use the Apple O (Open) command it merely opens the Virtual PC list. Am I doing this correctly?
If I follow Paul's tip, which was to solve a different error message, I find that there is no file called 'savedstate'.
Thanks incidentally, it's due to your web site that I found this forum.
Regards

My virtual hard disk (my d drive in VPC) is
<home>/documents/Virtual PC List/Virtual PC Drive.vhdp
I can open it with OS X Finder PROVIDED that when it was last used VPC was shutdown rather than SAVED STATE (I just found this out accidentally - normally I dont use saved state).
I have copied a couple of related tips from this forum to: http://www4.tpgi.com.au/users/aoaug/mac_osx.html#crash including Paul's tip for recovering corrupt saved state.

BTW, I didn't mean to sound so categorical. I'll do what it needs to get a more stable system, but I do need to keep my paths intact.
If shared folders would do this then that would be great if I could find out how to set them up.
I do need to salvage D "drive" though.

It's not exactly 3 virtual machines that I have, as D + F are Virtual Hard Disk Documents and not Virtual PC documents. Having extra 'drives' is quite standard Windows policy and was the only way to go due to fixed paths in some legendary software installed. Sorry if I explained it incorrectly.
I have already experienced the problems with saved state files, but one hardly expects the fragility that VPC sometime demonstrates. I'm not concerned about the lost files (although that has never happened under pure Windows), but I just need to rescue my drive D.
I have read that it's possible to salvage a Virtual Hard Disk, but I cannot find where it was. I tracked down this forum to find you, due to advise you had given elsewhere.
Any clues please?

Most corruption of Windows is the result of the virtual machines being in a 'saved' state and an interruption in power for whatever reason on the Mac. A power outage, turning off the power bar, whatever.
This can corrupt the boot record of Windows, the saved state file, the Windows file system, or all three. Most of this corruption is fatal and you would need to restore a backup, do a Repair install (if you have a retail copy of Windows), or create a new virtual machine.
To reduce the risk of this happening, shut Windows down and then quit VPC. Re-launching Windows takes longer.........but it a far cry better than having to create a new virtual machine, re-install all of your software apps., and then retrieve your data (if you can).
So, my question is: Why would you want to have 3 virtual machines tied together? It's so much safer and easier to create a shared folder (or two, or three, or 10) in VPC and save your data to there. If Windows does crash, at least your data is safe on the Mac hard drive.
