Move VM to external hd after installing in internal?

I want to move my XP Home VM to an external hard drive and use it there
rather than have it installed on my Mac's hard drive (ie:
Home/Documents folder). I'm a little confused as to how to do this. Do
I have to reinstall it or can I copy the VM to my external then trash
the VM on my internal hard drive so next time I start VPC 7 I can
choose for it to open it from my external?

If someone could recommend the best method to do this I'd really
appreciate it. :)
